Next BELIO:032 - NEO-PSYCHEDELIA > > > > (DEADLINE: 1/September/2010)

"Wallbraker" by Arnaud Grappin

NEO: is a prefix signaling a new way or a revival of an old one.

PSYCHEDELIA: is a neologism derived from the Greek words psyche (soul) and delein (to manifest), translating to mind-manifesting. The term was first coined as a noun in 1957 by psychiatrist Humphry Osmond as an alternative descriptor for hallucinogenic drugs in the context of psychedelic psychotherapy. However, when it comes to psychedelia it often refers to a very precise art form: the psychedelic art, especially painting and music, which evolved from the fifties of last century. This kind of art is characterized by the evocation of personal psychedelic experiences: synesthesia, altered time perception and sense of identity, empathy, etc. The psychedelia reached its apogee in the second half of the sixties and early seventies. One of the most egregious components of Counterculture, offering an escape from the limits of consciousness and everyday life by the dominant system.

BELIO 032: It's been almost five full decades since the apogee of psychedelia. Now we live a stage of art in full bloom. More than ever are we part of a global community (digital, that is!) and trends overlap and mix creating strange hybrids of recycled culture. We attend and participate in a neo-pagan iconography that goes before a group of used or unconvincing ideologies and beliefs, as result of the concern about an uncertain future. Escapism becomes a regular solution to adversity. The exit for this escapism is a door inside our mind, some call that door spirituality, for others it is pure imagination, for many others is just physics and chemistry to solve, and for a few others is a vision of another reality, a parallel world.

PARTICIPATE: We are looking for graphics, designs and illustrations which are clearly inspired by psychedelia, but with a really cool air and renovated touch, with its own language from 2010. Look for inspiration in new music groups, contemporary literature, recent movies, hallucinogenic drugs*, etc. This is the challenge, an updated version of psychedelia.

Belio FLOG 032: AMAZING NATURE > > > > (DEADLINE: 1/September/2010)

This is the call for photo-submissions for Belio 032! Yes! PHOTO! only pictures, no graphics, no digital filters or effects, just pure photography (digital & traditional) in relation with the topic that we propose you here: Amazing Nature.

Spirobolid Nest by Alan McClelland

The next Flog of Belio wants to be a collection of beautiful and artistic images of nature: unusual animals, quasi-alien insects, fantastic plants, surreal trees, striking mushrooms, geometric patterns found in organic forms, unique species, etc.

We don't to make a common album of natural sciences. Our goal is to show and surprise with stunning images that show the great and psychedelic side of our planet Earth. Photographs of bright colors, enlarged details of a vegetative and animal world that has been looked at through a magnifying glass to show surrealistic worlds that exist in our reality.

What are you waiting for? Reveal the scientific explorer in you and go hiking in nature with your camera.

THE DEADLINE TO SEND YOUR FILES IS SEPTEMBER 1st, 2010.

WHAT'S "FLOG"?
Flog is a new section in Belio devoted entirely to photography as a medium of expression through which we want to call those who are addicted to capturing the world through their cameras (digital or analog) to tell their stories. Under a common theme we invite everyone, amateurs and professionals, to send their vision.

These collaborations can consist of at least 1 photo to a maximum of 5 images in the case of a series and could be accompanied by a short text to serve as an introduction, supplement or clarification of the images, apart of the author's data: name, surname and web address.

Photographs can be sent in JPG, TIF or PSD file format, black and white or color, to a maximum size of 24 cm (width or height) and 300 dpi resolution. Send your files to Belio by mail on CD (to: Belio Magazine, Calle Argente 14, local. 28053 Madrid - Spain), or through any web page to transfer files via FTP as yousendit.com, megaupload.com, rapidshare.com or similar. Send all your images compressed in 1 ONLY file (rar or zip).

IMPORTANT: Do not forget to include all your data (author, real name, full mailing address, zip code, phone number, email and web address) into a text document. We need it to contact you and send you a copy of the publication in case your work is selected.
